Translations
With the assistance of ChatGPT-5, I’ve begun translating Johann Gottfried Seume’s magnificent book A Stroll to Syracuse. So far, I’ve translated Seume’s introduction and his account of the first leg of the journey from Grimma (near Leipzig) to Dresden.
Go and take a look on my Seume website.
Feedback, comments, suggestions all very welcome.
Travel plans
In November, Jo and I will be visiting Berlin, and I’ll be making a day trip to Leipzig, the city where Seume went to school and later lived.
In January 2027, I’ll begin the first leg of Seume’s 2,000-kilometre journey to Syracuse, travelling from Grimma to Dresden.1
In the spring, I’ll return to Dresden and make my way south into Bohemia, as far as Prague.
In the autumn, I’ll return to Prague and continue south to the border with Austria.
Keep in touch for further updates!
My stroll to Syracuse will be a mixture of walking, local buses and trains.
